Professor Ryan Donnelly holds Queen's University Belfast's Chair in Pharmaceutical Technology. His research is centred on transdermal and intradermal drug delivery. He has obtained substantial (>£30M GBP) research funding and authored approximately 360 full papers (H-index = 92). He leads a research group of approximately 50 people from 15 different countries and has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences. Professor Donnelly is Europe/Africa Editor of Drug Delivery & Translational Research. He won the International Association of Pharmaceutical Technology (APV) Research Award for Outstanding Achievements in the Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Harrison Medal and the Controlled Release Society Kydonieus Foundation Transdermal Award in 2024, the Drug Deliveery & Translational Research Best Paper Award and the European Journal of Pharmaceutics & Biopharmaceutics Most Cited Paper Award in 2023, Visit Belfast's Life & Health Sciences Ambassador Award (2022), the APS Innovatiove Science Award (2020), Evonik’s Resomer Award (2018), the Controlled Release Society’s Young Investigator Award (2016), BBSRC Innovator of the Year (2013) and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists Pharmaceutical Research Meritorious Manuscript Award (2013 & 2022), the GSK Emerging Scientist Award (2012) and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Science Award (2011).
