Doug Nelson has an MS in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and is a PhD student in Pharmaceutics at the University of Minnesota. During his undergraduate education in mathematics and chemistry, Nelson worked under a state-funded internship program formulating and characterizing lipid nanoparticle formulations for transdermal delivery of ibuprofen. Nelson’s dissertation focuses on identifying Alzheimer's disease changes in phenotype and intercellular communication among the various cells of the neurovascular unit and investigating the mechanisms of those changes which are heavily influenced by cerebrovascular dysfunction.
