Inspired by his own academic research and questions from the field, Tom Schirris is motivated to quantify how a drug enters the cell and distributes subcellularly. As this knowledge is pivotal to unlock many valuable drug targets residing inside cells. To do so, he founded QTM BioSciences which has developed a label-free technology to measure subcellular (un)bound drug concentrations and the role of organelle transport proteins therein. Before founding QTM he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Radboud medical center where he also obtained his PhD with distinction (cum laude). The basis for his expert knowledge on mitochondrial transport proteins originates from his two-year fellowship at the University of Cambridge, which along with his work in Nijmegen also led to his certification as a European registered Pharmacologist (EuCP) and Toxicologist (ERT).
