Sandra Klein (PhD) is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Greifswald, Germany. She is a pharmacist by training, received her pharmacy degree and her PhD from the University of Frankfurt, Germany and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN, USA. Since starting her PhD, she has been working on the development of biorelevant in vitro methods and meanwhile has more than 20 years of experience with biorelevant dissolution assays. Her current research interests fall into the areas of formulation development and the development of in vitro and in silico models for predicting the in vivo performance of a wide range of dosage forms. In the latter field, her research focuses on the establishment of predictive in vitro models for special patient populations, with a particular focus on children, and for non-oral dosage forms such as long-acting injectables, vaginal and rectal dosage forms.
Sandra is the current President of the APV (International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology) and a member of AAPS, DPhG and EuPFI. Among many other roles, she is currently serving as an Expert Member of the USP Expert Panel on New Advancements in Product Performance Testing and is Editor-in-Chief of Pharmazie.
