Description: This presentation addresses a novel pharmaceutical excipient awaiting first-in-human trials, primarily for injections: hyaluronic acid nanogel. The hyaluronic acid nanogel is a nano-sized hydrogel particle (20-100 nm) that can load various APIs simply and easily by mixing with them. It acts as an API carrier, facilitating the subcutaneous sustained release of APIs through in-situ depot formation and enhancing the solubility of poorly water-soluble APIs, increasing solubility by more than 100 thousand times in some cases.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participants will learn a cutting-edge approach using a novel pharmaceutical excipient to modulate release profiles or enhance solubility of lead APIs.
  • Upon completion, participants will understand API versatility of the approach; a library of small molecules, peptides and proteins with various molecular weights is applicable.
  • Upon completion, participants will gain insight into the significance of the hyaluronic acid nanogel compared to already-known excipients such as PLGA microparticles or polysorbate 80.
