Advance to Primary Drying Directly After Annealing Without Re-Freezing

During the presentation, attendees will be able to:

1) Examine how annealing is used prior to primary drying to encourage crystallization of crystallizing components in a formulation.

2) Examine how some lyophilization cycles incorporate a step that utilizes cooling to -40C after annealing before initiating primary drying.

3) Determine if there are reasons to "re-freeze" formulations after annealing.

4) Compare the effects of "re-freezing" after annealing and initiating drying directly after annealing.

5. Determine if "re-freezing" offers an advantage on drying time.

  • Demonstrate how refreezing after annealing may affect total drying time.
  • Examine the effect of the anneating temperature on primary drying.
  • Discuss options for annealing with and without refreezing before primary drying.
  • Explain the reason for annealing a formulation.
