CTO, Drug Product R&D
Porton, J-Star
Dr. San Kiang is currently the Chief Technology Officer Drug Product at Porton USA & J-Star Research.
As a Research Professor at Rutgers University, he worked on research projects in the Engineering Research Center for Structured Organic Particles and the Chemical Engineering Department. focusing on continuous manufacturing (CM) and particle engineering, material properties of APIs can be engineered, and how these properties affect CM equipment and drug product performance.
San Kiang has 35 years of pharmaceutical development and technology transfer experience at Bristol-Myers Squibb, covering both Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and Drug Product (DP) areas. He has experience in directing multi-disciplinary teams in pharmaceutical, chemical, and biochemical development and manufacture, and directed and/or participated in 12 NDA projects that were eventually commercialized, and successfully participated in one of the first NDA filings using QBD paradigm. In this filing, he led the use of risk assessment and process modeling with emphasis on fundamental mechanistic understanding for drug development. Well recognized expert in crystallization, particle engineering, reaction engineering, continuous processing (both DP and API), as well as the design of pharmaceutical composite materials through co-processing.
