Senior Scientist
Moderna, Inc.
Md Mahmudul Hasan, M.S., Ph.D., is a senior scientist and distinguished Subject Matter Expert (SME) at Moderna, where he leads a team in the Global Clinical Biomarkers Laboratory. His team specializes in clinical and translational immunology, focusing on developing and validating novel biomarker assays. Clinical assays developed within the team are critical for investigating the immune responses elicited by Moderna’s mRNA vaccines and therapeutics, targeting infectious diseases, oncology, and autoimmune/rare diseases within a GLP/GCLP compliance lab.
Prior to joining Moderna, Dr. Hasan worked at Asklepios BioPharmaceutical, Inc. (AskBio), a gene therapy company, where he acquired extensive knowledge of immune responses to adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated gene therapy. During his post-doctoral research at the Mayo Clinic, he identified and characterized novel TIGIT+ human regulatory B cells and further demonstrated the link between this novel B cell subset and liver/kidney transplant patients.
Dr. Hasan was born and raised in Bangladesh. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Khulna University. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Studies from Baylor University and a master’s degree in biotechnology from Claflin University. With over a decade of experience in both academic and industry settings, he has developed a robust background in immunology, molecular biology, and biotechnology, with a particular focus on innate and adaptive immune responses.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hasan has contributed to numerous high-impact publications, presentations, and collaborations, showcasing his ability to effectively communicate and disseminate scientific findings. His mission is to leverage his extensive skills and knowledge to advance cell/gene/mRNA therapeutics and clinical biomarkers, delivering innovative solutions for patients with unmet medical needs. He is passionate about adopting new technologies, collaborating with diverse multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring junior scientists and trainees. Dr. Hasan continually seeks new opportunities and challenges to grow as a scientist and leader.
