Alf is holds a PharmD and a PhD in Pharmaceutics from the Saarland University in Saarbrücken (Germany). After postdoctoral fellowships in Angers (France) and at the Gifu Pharmaceutical University (Japan), he was appointed as Assistant Professor at the University of Nancy (France) in 2003. He became Professor for Pharmaceutical Engineering at the University of Franche-Comté in Besançon (France) in 2005 and moved to the University of Bonn (Germany) in 2007, where he currently holds a Chair in Pharmaceutics. He serves as a member of the editorial board of several pharmaceutical journals and has been actively working as an external advisor to the French Health Products Safety Agency as well as the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices in Germany. Alf has published more than 200 research articles and received several awards. He is an Alexander-von-Humboldt Fellow and was nominated as member of “Institut Universitaire de France” in 2007. His research interests focus on pharmaceutical particle engineering, drug delivery across absorption barriers, and drug delivery systems for immune modulating therapy.
