AI is making inroads in unexpected places, rapidly shuffling and reshuffling the career landscape. Anyone doing creative or knowledge-based work would be foolish to ignore the emerging changes brought about by the fast-moving deployment and commercialization of large-language models and other new tools.
As with any disruptive technology, the compounding growth of AI across knowledge industries is creating uncertainty. Anyone plotting out a career in science must ask, “How will this affect my job prospects? Will my job disappear? What new opportunities will present themselves?”
The area of regulatory submissions provides a useful case study. The process of drafting a regulatory filing involves many steps, some of which lend themselves to automation by a suitably trained AI bot. This topic is investigated in detail in the prologue video, “How Artificial Intelligence will Redefine the Roles of Scientific and Medical Writers,” submitted by David Hauss, Ph.D., R. Ph.
In this session Dr. Hauss and David P. Otey, MA, MBA, a frequent Career Development speaker for AAPS, explore which skills are at risk of becoming obsolete and which must be enhanced if one is to position oneself for success in this new and shifting landscape.
